About The Bikes
-
Wood is an amazingly versatile material with a higher strength to weight ratio than steel or aluminium. It has unique vibration damping properties which we use to build a bike with a super smooth ride. Wood is also a material we know and understand, having come from a background in engineering and furniture making. And we think it looks great too.

We use European Ash, grown in the UK under a sustainable forestry program. Of our native timbers, Ash has one of the highest strength to weight ratios and is available in defect free, straight grained planks, just what we are looking for. Its traditional use in tool handles, hurley sticks and even Morgan cars speaks of its ability to soak up vibration and sustain heavy loads.

We have designed and built our frames to take advantage of the natural strengths of wood. Our frames have been tested to BS EN ISO 4210-2:2015 which test for impact and fatigue, simulating 10 years of use. We have also been riding our prototypes since 2018, clocking up thousands of kilometers of hard riding on trails we would normally reserve for a mountain bike.

Yes, we offer a 5 year warranty - see here for details.

The frame is hollow and weighs between 1.7kg and 2.0kg, depending on the size. This is similar to an aluminium or high quality steel frame. The weight of a complete bike is largely dependent on the components, but our bikes start at around 9kg. Having said that, our single speed belt drive commuter is considerably lighter.

We live and work in Wales; a beautiful part of the world that has no shortage of weather. Our frames are designed to shrug off mud and rain, being finished externally with 3 layers of epoxy and 3 layers of a 2 part polyurethane clear coat. If you do suffer damage from impact or crashes it is likely that we will be able to repair it for you.
We also apply a layer of epoxy to the inside of the frame before we bond the two halves together and we have integrated a drain into our sealed seat tube to ensure there is nowhere that water can build up in the frame.
We would be disappointed if you don't ride your bike in mucky conditions.

Your Twmpa Cycles bike should be looked after in the same way as any other treasured bicycle.
Don't leave it wet and muddy.
Do store it in a dry space.
Do periodically check for damage to the varnish and repair before water can penetrate and cause damage.

You're welcome to try but don't come running to us with the results!
We love nothing more than pushing our bikes to the limit just to see what they can do, but when you know you'd be happier on a mountain bike then you're probably better off on ... a mountain bike.
